The Great Room
This family of four was ready for a GREAT room. After living in the smaller spaces of their historic home for many years, they wanted a space to stretch out, to host, and to be together.
The homeowner (an owner of a successful woodworking business) built many elements of the addition himself, including the restored antique windows, the salvaged wood floors, and the handmade mantle. The piano stayed, and so did his grandmother’s lamp. We added more vintage and antique elements, like the rug, lamps, and side tables, and layered in high-end, contemporary seating — every piece of it found secondhand. And we had an absolute blast with the stacked art.
My favorite moment in the project? Getting a text from the homeowners with an action shot of SEVEN teenage boys hanging out in the space. Our work here is done.
