Our Story

Hi, I’m Kristin.

Kristin Wiens Keyes, founder of Kristin Keyes Interiors, seated in a midcentury chair in the sunlit dining nook, in a patterned dress and cowboy boots, beside a cobalt-blue painting and a vase of red tulips

In the summer of 2021, I stepped away from my 15-year career as a middle school teacher and principal to take a year-long maternity leave with my newborn daughter. Her nursery reflected my postpartum mental state. It was chaotic: full of bins, boxes, and misfit furniture.

I started chipping away at it.

I had some time and a bunch of interior design ideas, but the idea of buying all new pieces broke my minimalist-heart and made my environmentalist-husband cringe. I committed to a secondhand first approach. I rearranged the bookshelves that we already had, bought a preloved crib on Facebook Marketplace, and scored a color-blocked vintage rug from a local dealer.

The result: Shopping secondhand wasn’t even a trade-off. It was an advantage. The nursery was interesting, artful, and timeless. The space made us smile every time we walked in.

I wanted to keep going.

I worked on spaces for family and friends and booked a few pioneering early clients, and, soon, Kristin Keyes Interiors was born.

Today, our mighty team includes four employees and a growing network of talented artists, vintage and antique dealers, and tradespeople. Together, we’ve systematized our secondhand first approach to interior design and used it to create artful, comfortable spaces for dozens of clients in and around Nashville, Tennessee.

We run it all from a perfectly imperfect 1920 home in Lockeland Springs. You can walk through it in the portfolio.

And if credentials matter to you: I have a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University and an M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard University. I use neither while loading your wingback or hanging your gallery wall.

I hope we work together soon,
Kristin
