Who it’s for

Want to design it yourself?

Very cool.

If you’re here, you already know it’s POSSIBLE to make a magazine-worthy room from preloved pieces, and you’ve probably found some great secondhand things.

If you’re totally happy with your room, that’s awesome.

But if your project is feeling more amateurish than you would like, keep reading.

Our workbook, Secondhand-First, teaches design-minded DIYers my exact studio process with prompts, step-by-step instructions, and photo examples.

How you’ll use it

Picture a Saturday

You’re in the room you want to change, laptop open, headphones on, something good playing. The workbook asks you about a room you loved as a kid, and you find yourself writing about your grandmother’s floral sofa.

A week on, you’re deep in Marketplace with the rug chapter open, searching “wool 10 x 14.” You drive out for a leather chair, get its entire life story from the seller, then carry it in, set it where your plan said it would live, and stand back.

The bonus chapter

The gallery wall, in a real room

Gallery walls are our most requested how-to, so the workbook includes a bonus chapter: step-by-step instructions for a signature KKI gallery wall out of pieces you already have and love. It’s low-waste, because it uses what you own, and high design, because few things make a stronger statement.

The Green Bedroom’s was drafted on the floor and hung in a couple of afternoons. Everything in the workbook works like this. Nothing in here is theory.
